| ABOUT |
| Hazart is the combined efforts of Kyle Hasday and Matt Stewart. For nearly a decade, the duo has created works in film and photography that display an introspective and bleak vision towards politically and socially divisive topics. The two began their collaboration in 2002 while attending Chapman University’s School of Film and Television. While in school Hazart wrote, produced and directed two short films. Their first film, A Cure for Writer’s Block (2005), followed a struggling writer whom inspiration came at the cost of other’s lives. Their second effort, Deconstructing the Family (2007), looks at the dynamic of a father, forced by a deranged and grief-stricken man, who must choose to kill one of his two sons. In between their narrative shorts, Hazart shot a music video for the local Los Angeles based rock band, Madras. The video, MADRAS: Great Wide Spinout (2006), incorporates a mix of visual effects, performance and storytelling of which earned it admission at festivals across the country. In recent years Hazart has moved into the areas of commercials and photography. They have created spec commercials for Axe Body Spray, Ameriquest Financial and American Express. With their work in photography, Hazart ranges from cityscapes and portraits to abstract art and photo essays. Their photographic mediums are highly varied, going from cell phones to medium format film. In late 2007, Hazart shot a political photo essay entitled, Atrophy Annie. The photo series blended hard-lined social topics such as religion, climate change, energy, steroids, and drugs with the style and polish of high-fashion photography. Based in Los Angeles, CA, Hazart has been consistently working in film since 2006. Their up-coming projects include an on-going gay rights photo essay as well as a film in development based on a feature script adapted from a novel. |
